FiiO HS22: Wooden Headphone Stand with Cable Hook

The FiiO HS22 was launched today (October 15) in mainland China. Instead of using a single material, FiiO opted for natural wood, metal, and polycarbonate (PC). Each material was selected with the headphone stand’s long-term functionality in mind. Details of this new release are provided below.

HS22 combines different materials for greater durability

To develop a product that would last for many years, FiiO used several materials in the HS22 headphone stand. This approach is uncommon, as products in this category typically use wood or metal for the main structure and rubber or foam for contact with the desk surface.

Polycarbonate support for the headphone headband

What caught my attention most was the use of polycarbonate (PC) to support the headphone headband. According to the manufacturer, this material was selected because it is “resistant to sweat and moisture.” This decision makes sense, as headphone headbands tend to accumulate sweat and skin oils.

Although FiiO did not mention it, an interesting feature that can be incorporated into polycarbonate is protection against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If the polycarbonate component of the FiiO HS22 has received this treatment, it will prevent drying out and yellowing caused by exposure to sunlight.

An aluminum alloy hook for hanging cables

Because over-ear headphone cables can be heavy and/or very long, the FiiO HS22 features an aluminum alloy hook. This allows “any type of cable” to be supported without concern about damaging the headphone stand.

Column and base made of natural wood

To support the weight of the headphones and their cables, the FiiO HS22 uses beech wood for its base and column.

Note that the base and column form a single assembly. The two components are joined by a screw inserted from the underside of the base. This design allows for more compact product packaging.
