4 Reasons to Change Your TWS Ear Tips

It is not uncommon for TWS earphones to fall out of the ear. The reason True Wireless earphones tend to loosen or fall is usually related to poor fit within the ear canal. However, this issue often becomes even more pronounced during physical exercise, increasing the risk of the in-ear monitor “jumping” out of the ear. The solution is to replace the ear tips. In this article, I present four reasons why you should replace the stock ear tips included with your TWS earphones with higher-quality alternatives.

Why You Should Replace the Ear Tips on Your TWS In-Ear Earphones

Replacing the ear tips on your TWS (True Wireless Stereo) In-Ear Monitor (IEM) with models produced by specialized manufacturers is always worthwhile. By doing so, you may achieve improvements in four key aspects of your Bluetooth wireless earphones.

1 – Comfort Inside the Ear Canal

The ear tips included with TWS in-ear earphones are often relatively stiff, which compromises comfort. In addition, True Wireless IEMs commonly include only three ear tip sizes, making it more difficult for users to find the ideal fit.

Manufacturers specialized in ear tips typically produce models made from more flexible materials. As a result, it becomes possible to avoid potential discomfort or pain in the ear canal after wearing TWS earphones for several consecutive hours. Nevertheless, if the nozzle of the True Wireless earphone is excessively wide, no ear tip will be capable of providing adequate comfort.

Depending on the diameter of the ear canal and the width of the nozzle, improving comfort may require more than simply replacing the ear tips. 2 – Environmental Noise Isolation

To achieve effective isolation from external noise, the ear tip must conform easily to the contours of the ear canal. For this reason, foam is generally the preferred material for obtaining the highest level of passive noise blocking.

Foam ear tips are excellent for passive noise cancellation; however, they are unfortunately disposable. As I explained in the article “How to Clean and Sanitize In-Ear Headphones or Earbuds”, foam ear tips typically last around two to three months. If you prefer ear tips with greater durability, silicone models are recommended.

3 – Improved Sound Quality

Replacing ear tips alters the frequency response curve of TWS in-ear earphones. This change may be subtle or significant, but more importantly, it can make music listening considerably more enjoyable.

4 – Stability and Retention in the Ear

The stability of TWS in-ear earphones depends on both the ear tips and the dimensions of the earphone nozzle. It is important that the IEM does not have an excessively wide nozzle, allowing for deeper insertion into the ear canal. Additionally, to prevent the True Wireless earphones from “jumping” out of the ear, the ear tips must provide a high level of grip within the ear canal.

Grip is generally improved when the ear tip material is more flexible. However, there is another important factor that must also be considered.

A secure fit depends not only on the aspects discussed above, but also on selecting the correct ear tip size. For this reason, always test all available sizes and determine which one provides the greatest stability for your TWS earphones.

Bonus: Additional Tip for Exercise Enthusiasts

If you engage in physical activities such as running, weight training, or cycling, it is important to prevent sweat from entering the TWS in-ear earphones. For this reason, it is advisable to look for ear tips equipped with a protective mesh filter. This creates a secondary barrier that helps prevent liquids from coming into contact with the driver and internal circuitry of the Bluetooth IEM.

The primary barrier against liquids and dust in TWS earphones is the filter attached to the nozzle. This component may consist of either a metal mesh or a fabric layer with microscopic perforations.
