The FiiO FG3 was officially launched yesterday (July 1) simultaneously in the international market and mainland China. The FG3’s key features include dual dynamic drivers per side, microphone noise cancellation, a 10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ), and breathable fabric ear pads. It also offers dedicated EQ presets tailored to different gaming genres to enhance in-game audio awareness. Below are the details of this new release.

FG3 features dual dynamic drivers per side, PEQ, breathable fabric ear pads, and more

The FG3 is FiiO’s first gaming headset. Designed specifically for gaming, it aims to improve directional audio accuracy through the use of two dynamic drivers (DDs) per side. It also features breathable mesh fabric ear pads designed to provide long-lasting comfort and durability.

To further optimize its gaming performance, FiiO integrated both a DSP chip and a DAC/headphone amplifier into the USB-C cable assembly. This enables compatibility with the FiiO Control Web application, which includes a 10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ). In addition, several ready-to-use EQ presets are available for different gaming scenarios.

Below are the details of these features and more.

Dual dynamic drivers for more accurate in-game sound positioning

By combining a 50 mm dynamic driver with a 16 mm dynamic driver, the FG3 is designed to improve directional audio perception during gameplay. To ensure consistent phase response and accurate imaging, FiiO employs a two-way electronic crossover, which divides the frequency range between the two drivers.

The 50 mm driver is responsible for reproducing bass and midrange frequencies, while the 16 mm driver handles the treble. According to FiiO, the combination delivers an immersive sound signature with strong environmental awareness and fast transient response.

Breathable fabric ear pads

To maximize comfort and durability, the FG3 is equipped with breathable mesh fabric ear pads, helping keep the ears cool and reducing discomfort caused by sweat during extended gaming sessions.

The ear pads also use memory foam, providing an effective seal around the ears to maintain proper acoustic performance.

Another practical feature is that the ear pads are removable and replaceable, allowing users to wash them when necessary or replace them once they become heavily worn.

Integrated DAC and headphone amplifier

To ensure high-quality audio reproduction, the FG3 incorporates an integrated headphone amplifier capable of delivering up to 80 mW of output power. Considering the headset’s 32-ohm impedance and 100 dB/mW sensitivity, I believe this output power should be sufficient to drive it properly.

According to FiiO, the headset also includes a high-performance integrated DAC with native support for 192 kHz/24-bit audio decoding. Unfortunately, the company has not disclosed either the manufacturer or the model of the DAC used in the FG3.

The USB cable and integrated controls

The FG3 features a fixed cable attached to one of the ear cups, meaning it cannot be replaced if it becomes damaged over time. The main cable terminates in a 3.5 mm TRRS connector, which connects to an extension module containing the DSP controls, volume controls, and microphone functions.

This inline control module uses a USB-C connector, which is why it houses the integrated DAC and headphone amplifier. These components convert the incoming digital audio signal into an analog signal and amplify it before driving the headset’s speakers.

Detachable microphone with Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC)

The FG3 includes a detachable boom microphone equipped with Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC). This technology suppresses background noises such as mechanical keyboard keystrokes and mouse clicks, allowing the microphone to focus primarily on the user’s voice. As a result, communication with teammates becomes clearer during gameplay.

Another useful feature is real-time microphone monitoring (sidetone), which allows users to hear their own voice while speaking, making it easier to monitor voice quality and make adjustments when necessary.

FiiO Control Web with PEQ and gaming EQ presets

Through the browser-based FiiO Control Web application, users can adjust the built-in 10-band parametric equalizer (PEQ). The software also includes four EQ presets optimized for different gaming genres, in addition to dedicated Movie and Music modes.

The FG3 offers the following preconfigured gaming audio profiles:

• FPS
• Action (ACT)
• MOBA
• Rhythm (MUG)

Once customized, EQ settings are stored locally, allowing users to instantly reload their personalized audio profiles. It is worth noting that only the Cinema and Action (ACT) modes support virtual 7.1 surround sound.

Broad device compatibility

The FG3 is compatible with PCs, smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles. Whether connected to a Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 (PS5), or Xbox, the headset can be used without requiring additional accessories.

The headset is also compatible with computers running either Windows or macOS.

Foldable design

The FiiO FG3 features a foldable headband, making the headset easier to transport while traveling.
