FiiO DT11: Full Specs and Shipping Details

The shipping date for FiiO DT11 preorders has been announced, along with the device’s complete specifications. In response to questions about its new portable Android digital transport, FiiO also published a list of questions and answers addressing inquiries from prospective customers. All the updates released by the company are presented below.

Shipping date announced for DT11 preorders

International preorders for the FiiO DT11 opened on August 26. The manufacturer had promised to ship the product by the end of this month, but no specific date had been provided. With the opening of preorders in mainland China, a shipping date has now been announced.

According to FiiO, shipments of the DT11 in mainland China are expected to begin on September 28. However, the company’s CEO, James Chung, stated that the company is working to ship the products before that date.

James explained that company employees would make every effort to ensure that Chinese customers receive their FiiO DT11 units during the Mid-Autumn Festival [1].

“We expect shipments in mainland China to begin gradually tomorrow, September 25. During the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 25 and 26, our warehouse team will work in shifts, and shipments will continue as usual. We have arranged this so that everyone can use the DT11 during the holiday.”

[1] The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival (Zhōngqiū Jié), is one of China’s most important traditional celebrations. This year, it will take place on September 25 and 26.

DT11 production and shipping follow a color-based sequence

According to James Chung, silver DT11 units will ship first because production of the black version began later.

“The silver version will be produced first. The black version will follow two days later.”

First-batch availability will be limited in China and internationally

The first batch of the FiiO DT11 comprises a total of 1,000 units, which will be allocated between the international market and mainland China. However, 100 units are reserved for distributors and reviewers.

According to James, fewer than 500 DT11 units will be sold in mainland China. Consequently, Hi-Fi Hub estimates that approximately 400 FiiO DT11 units will be available for sale internationally.

“The initial order is for 1,000 units, but actual production will be slightly lower. Since we will also reserve units for reviews and distributors, approximately 900 units will be available for sale. This batch needs to serve customers worldwide, so fewer than 500 units across the silver and black versions will be available in the Chinese market.”

DT11 preorders will be available exclusively online through FiiO

In response to questions about purchasing the DT11 at physical stores, the manufacturer announced that the first batch would be sold exclusively online. The company also stated that sales would be conducted primarily through its own online channels. This approach is intended to prevent a price increase during the device’s launch.

“Purchases at physical stores are not currently available. Sharp increases in the prices of components, such as memory chips, have placed considerable pressure on product costs. Therefore, the first batch will be sold primarily through FiiO’s own online channels to meet demand more quickly and keep prices under control as much as possible.”

James stated that if sales of the first batch meet the company’s expectations, adjustments will be made to sales channels and pricing.

“If sales of the first batch meet expectations, we may adjust sales channels and pricing at a later stage.”

1. Are there plans to release versions with more memory and storage?

There are currently no plans for configurations with greater memory and storage capacities.

2. What is the difference between the DT11 and a conventional portable player?

The main difference lies in each device’s intended purpose. A portable player includes an integrated DAC, amplification circuitry, and a headphone output, allowing users to connect headphones and listen to music directly.

The DT11, by contrast, is an exclusively digital audio source, that is, a digital transport. It does not include a headphone output or the analog circuitry associated with digital-to-analog conversion and amplification. Headphones therefore cannot be connected directly to the device; an external DAC/amp is required. Its purpose is to deliver high-quality digital audio signals.

3. How does the DT11’s digital output quality compare with that of the players currently sold by FiiO?

The DT11 offers the best digital output quality in FiiO’s portable product lineup. Its main advantages fall into three areas:

• Extremely low jitter at the coaxial output: A fundamental factor in ensuring the quality of audio transmitted through this connection.
• Integrated signal-cleaning function at the USB output: Eliminates interference through digital signal conditioning, clock optimization, and electrical isolation.
• Greater USB power delivery capability: Specifically optimized for use with high-end portable DACs.

3.1. How does the DT11’s digital output quality compare with that of the FiiO M27?

FiiO CEO James Chung clarified the differences between the FiiO DT11 Android digital transport and the FiiO M27 digital audio player. His comments are reproduced below.

“Unlike analog signals, the sound quality of a digital audio signal depends on two factors: data accuracy and clock accuracy. Data accuracy depends on whether the amplitudes of the high and low levels are correct and whether the rising and falling edges are sufficiently sharp. Maintaining data integrity in audio transmission is generally straightforward. Clock accuracy is measured using jitter, which constitutes the primary difference between high-end digital audio sources and entry-level models. Therefore, we can readily measure jitter using instruments to assess the sound quality of a digital audio source. This differs from analog audio, where higher specifications do not necessarily indicate better performance, and the THD, SINAD, and signal-to-noise ratio metrics, along with the frequency response curves currently used in the industry, are insufficient to fully reveal sound quality.

“That is why we can confidently state that the DT11 delivers better measurement results than the M27, which costs several times more. Naturally, the two devices serve different purposes, so we should not directly compare the DT11’s primary function with a merely auxiliary feature of the M27.”

A prospective customer asked James how the M27’s jitter compares with the DT11’s average coaxial output jitter of “<67 ps.” FiiO’s CEO provided the following response.

“The M27’s jitter is approximately 90 ps.”

4. Are there plans to release a dedicated protective case for the DT11?

A dedicated leather protective case with magnetic attachment is already planned. Production is being expedited, and the case will be available for separate purchase.

4.1. Does the DT11’s magnetic attachment support wireless charging?

No. DT11 project manager Wian Liu clarified that the magnetic system on the back of the product does not support wireless charging. Its sole purpose is to attach portable DACs with magnetic cases and desktop stands equipped with magnets.
