The Snowsky FH3 LUMI was officially launched today (August 5) in both the international market and mainland China. Designed with a strong emphasis on the midrange, the LUMI is described by its manufacturer as the “Vocal Special Edition” of the FiiO FH3. The primary objective behind the IEM’s tuning was to recreate an “analog timbre” for vocal reproduction. Below are all the details about Snowsky’s latest in-ear monitor.

LUMI Prioritizes an “Analog Timbre” Over “Technical Performance” or “Dynamics”

During the development of the FH3 LUMI, Snowsky focused on tuning the IEM to recreate the distinctive analog timbre associated with classic CD players and cassette decks. To achieve this goal, the company invited numerous experienced audiophiles to participate in the tuning process, gathering extensive feedback to refine the sound signature into one that would appeal to the broadest possible audience.

Two Years of Research, Development, and Prototype Testing

The development of the FH3 LUMI took two years, during which a total of 21 prototypes were produced before the final tuning was achieved. Throughout this process, feedback was collected from nearly 100 listeners who auditioned the IEM.

By refining the crossover network and implementing specialized filtering circuits, Snowsky’s engineers were able to eliminate sibilance in the 6 kHz to 8 kHz frequency range. The manufacturer described the process as follows:

“We adopted a high-precision fourth-order filter circuit to accurately isolate the 6–8 kHz frequency band. This system works in conjunction with an electronic active notch filter, effectively suppressing harshness. This approach eliminates sibilance while preserving the extension and rich detail of frequencies above 8 kHz.”

Snowsky further explained:

“We concentrated our efforts on precisely tuning the crossover frequencies around the vocal-critical bands, ensuring a sound that is both three-dimensional and full-bodied.”

A Dynamic Driver Designed for Natural Vocal Reproduction

The dynamic driver’s diaphragm in the FH3 LUMI is manufactured using traditional papermaking techniques, combining cashmere fibers with plant fibers.

Although Snowsky states that it uses “cashmere-wood fibers,” such a material does not actually exist. “Cashmere wood” is instead an olfactory accord, a synthetic fragrance note developed by the perfume industry to evoke the sensation of cashmere fabric.

What does exist is cashmere fiber, which is obtained from the fleece of cashmere goats native to the Kashmir region. These animals inhabit the mountains of Central Asia, and the wool produced from their coats is renowned for its exceptional softness and light weight.

According to Snowsky, the dynamic driver (DD) in the FH3 LUMI was specifically designed to “restore the warmth and texture of the human voice.” The company describes the result as follows:

“The ideal balance of clarity, resolution, and midrange reproduction, delivering natural, rich vocals that remain comfortable during extended listening sessions.”

Balanced Armatures Enhance the Midrange While Preserving Treble Detail

The FH3 LUMI employs a hybrid driver configuration, combining one dynamic driver (DD) with a pair of Balanced Armature (BA) drivers.

Snowsky did not specify how bass reproduction is divided among the drivers, but it explained that the Balanced Armatures are responsible for part of the midrange as well as the treble.

According to the company, the FH3 LUMI’s BA drivers “enhance the presence of the midrange” while “preserving treble detail” and maintaining the “natural extension” of the high frequencies.
