Snowsky Echo Gets Cheaper 4GB Version

The Snowsky Echo (not the Mini) received a new, cheaper version last Monday (June 22) in mainland China. The only difference between the original Echo and the new variant is the internal storage capacity. All other aspects of its internal and external hardware configuration remain unchanged. The main advantage here is the lower price, bringing it closer to the amount charged for the Echo Mini.

Update (July 15): The 4GB version of the Snowsky Echo is now available from FiiO’s official store on AliExpress.

Echo (not Mini) now comes in versions with different storage capacities

To make the Snowsky Echo (not the Mini) even more accessible, FiiO decided to create a new version with reduced internal storage capacity. Instead of 8GB of internal memory, the new Echo version comes with 4GB of storage.

According to FiiO employee “Matt,” the price of the 4GB Snowsky Echo is 20 yuan (around US$2.95) lower than that of the 8GB version. This represents a 5% difference in the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

While the 8GB Echo costs 399 yuan (approximately US$58.76), the 4GB Echo will be sold for 379 yuan (around US$55.81). Considering that the 8GB Echo costs US$73.63 in the international market and that the price difference is 5%, the 4GB Snowsky Echo will likely be sold outside China for US$69.95.

As you can see, the price difference between the Echo versions is very small in China. Consequently, for the 4GB Echo to make practical sense in the international market, Snowsky would need to apply a discount greater than just five percent.

Is the 4GB Snowsky Echo worth buying instead of the Echo Mini?

If the price difference between the 4GB and 8GB versions of the Snowsky Echo (not the Mini) is greater than it is in China, it may be worth considering. While the Echo Mini has a plastic body, the Echo features an aluminum-alloy chassis. However, this is not the only difference between the two, as you will see below.
