Snowsky BEATBOX Launches with Speakers, Radio and Replaceable Battery

The Snowsky BEATBOX was launched today (June 18) in mainland China. Unlike FiiO’s portable CD players, the DM13 and DM15, the BEATBOX is designed primarily around its built-in speakers rather than headphone listening. Other highlights of Snowsky’s first CD player include an integrated FM radio, a user-replaceable battery, magnetic rear mounting, and a customizable removable front cover. Below are the details of this new release.

BEATBOX Brings Stereo Sound, FM Radio, Customizable Cover, and More

Designed to become part of a home’s furniture and décor, the BEATBOX features a stereo speaker system and a customizable removable front cover. To facilitate installation in different locations, a magnetic mount on the rear allows the unit to be attached to walls or placed on tables. An integrated FM radio receiver is also included, enabling users to listen to radio stations while preparing meals or performing daily activities.

The standout features of Snowsky’s CD player extend beyond those mentioned above. Each of them is detailed below.

Stereo Speakers

The BEATBOX’s integrated speaker system consists of two drivers dedicated to midrange and treble reproduction, along with a separate woofer for low frequencies. To enhance bass performance, Snowsky implemented an acoustic chamber with a dedicated bass reflex port.

Note that small ventilation openings are located on the rear of the CD player. Care should be taken not to obstruct them, as they serve as the bass port outlet.

Snowsky also notes that when reproducing music with intense bass or at very high volume levels, the BEATBOX may occasionally experience playback interruptions. According to the company, this occurs because vibrations generated by the speakers can affect the optical disc-reading mechanism.

Customizable Removable Cover

Following Snowsky’s philosophy of treating its products as “fashion accessories,” the BEATBOX incorporates a customizable removable front cover. Secured by four magnets positioned at the corners, the cover can be replaced with different designs. According to the manufacturer, users may also insert their own artwork or images.

If you wish to create a custom design, simply attach your printed artwork to the magnetic cover included with the BEATBOX. The company advises against using opaque ink in the area covering the infrared receiver, as doing so may interfere with remote-control operation.

Magnetic Rear Mount and Infrared Remote Control

To enable convenient use in different rooms throughout the home, Snowsky implemented a MagSafe-like magnetic mounting system on the rear panel, along with an infrared receiver. This allows users to mount the portable CD player on a wall or place it on a table while controlling it via the included infrared remote control.

Another method of remote operation is through a smartphone connected via Bluetooth.

Music Streaming via Bluetooth or Auxiliary Cabl

By connecting the BEATBOX to a smartphone or PC through Bluetooth or an auxiliary cable, users can stream audio from music streaming services. This provides access to millions of albums and playlists while allowing playback control without touching the CD player’s physical buttons.

Bluetooth reception supports both the SBC and LDAC codecs.

In addition to streaming services, users can also listen to radio broadcasts through the BEATBOX.

Integrated FM Radio Receiver

For those who enjoy listening to radio stations while cooking or performing household activities, the BEATBOX may be an appealing option. Snowsky’s portable CD player includes an integrated FM radio receiver that supports listening through either headphones or the built-in speakers.

CD Ripping and USB Playback

The BEATBOX can extract audio from CDs and save it in the lossless WAV format directly to a connected USB flash drive.

In addition, users can play music stored on a USB drive in MP3, WMA, FLAC, and WAV formats. However, lossless file playback is limited to a maximum sampling rate of 48 kHz.

Equalization (EQ) Presets

Music playback on the BEATBOX can be customized using built-in EQ presets. Unfortunately, there is no parametric equalizer (PEQ) for advanced EQ adjustments. However, users who prefer an unaltered sound signature can disable EQ entirely.
