The Fosi Neo launched internationally today (October 10). The Neo is Fosi’s first digital audio player (DAP) and is priced below US$100. As previously reported by Hi-Fi Hub, a prototype of the DAP was showcased at SIAS 2026. Its main highlight is the “Click Wheel,” the touch-sensitive control used on the iPod. Read on for all the details about this new release from Fosi.

The Neo arrives at a somewhat high price for what it offers

When the Fosi Neo was first showcased at SIAS, it attracted considerable interest from the brand’s fans. As Hi-Fi Hub previously noted, the Neo is a budget DAP, and its asking price is indeed relatively low overall. However, comparisons with digital audio players from brands such as FiiO, HiBy, and TempoTec make its price more difficult to justify.

Among the models offered in the same price range by the manufacturers mentioned above, the Neo is the only one with internal storage for music. However, only the 16 GB version of Fosi’s DAP represents good value, as the 64 GB model costs more than US$100. Considering the price, purchasing the 16 GB Neo along with one of the 128 GB microSD cards recommended by Hi-Fi Hub offers better value.

Although having 16 GB available for music storage immediately out of the box provides a certain advantage, the Fosi Neo has two critical limitations. It supports microSD cards with capacities of only up to 256 GB and does not provide access to any music streaming services. These are the same capabilities offered by the Snowsky Echo Mini for less than US$50.

Storage is not the Fosi Neo’s only weakness

In addition to limiting music storage expansion to 256 GB, the Fosi Neo lacks a 4.4 mm balanced output. Its only headphone output is a 3.5 mm single-ended (SE) connection. This may be a problem for users who own multiple in-ear monitors (IEMs) with 4.4 mm balanced cables.

For those who prefer a 3.5 mm output, the Neo provides respectable output power that is comparable to competing models. The Fosi Neo delivers 129 mW into 32 Ω. This is similar to the power available from the single-ended (SE) outputs of DAPs such as the Snowsky DISC and TempoTec Variations V1.

Support for playlists and gapless playback remains uncertain

The Neo’s promotional materials do not mention playlist support (M3U files). If Fosi’s DAP lacks this feature, that would be a problem. Models in the same price range, such as the Snowsky DISC, Variations V1, and HiBy R1, support playlists.

Another consideration is gapless playback. Many digital audio player users value uninterrupted playback, but Fosi does not specify whether the Neo offers this capability.

The Fosi Neo offers below-average battery life

With a rated continuous playback time of 12 hours, the Fosi Neo offers below-average battery life compared with competing models. DAPs such as the TempoTec Variations V1 and HiBy R1 provide approximately 15 hours of playback. Among the digital audio players mentioned in this article, only the Snowsky DISC has the same battery life as the Neo.

The Fosi Neo supports Bluetooth

Bluetooth headphones and speakers can be connected to the Fosi Neo. However, SBC is the only Bluetooth codec supported by the DAP.

Fosi does not specify whether the Neo supports Bluetooth reception for audio transmitted from a smartphone. This feature would be useful for accessing streaming services. It is important to mention that both the Snowsky DISC and the Tempotec Variations V1 support Bluetooth reception.

What about the “Click Wheel”? Do any DAPs other than the Fosi Neo offer it?

Within its price range, the Fosi Neo is the only DAP that offers the “Click Wheel,” the touch-sensitive control used on the iPod. The only digital audio player with a similar concept is the Shanling Q2, which costs US$259. However, the Q2’s “Click Wheel” functions solely as a volume control, whereas the Neo’s can be used to navigate menus.
