FiiO UTWS17 launches with detachable MMCX and 0.78mm connectors

The FiiO UTWS17 (LINK TWS) was launched yesterday (July 24) for the international market. Like the UTWS5 (2025), the UTWS17 features a wireless charging system that eliminates exposed charging contacts, which commonly oxidize on TWS Bluetooth ear hooks designed for In-Ear Monitors (IEMs). Its key highlights include detachable 0.78 mm 2-pin and MMCX connectors, a charging case with a battery status display, and 85 mW of output power.

UTWS17 (LINK TWS) arrives with detachable connectors, higher output power, and a charging case display

The FiiO UTWS17, the successor to the UTWS5 (2025), introduces a charging case with an integrated display, removable connectors, and significantly higher output power. It also upgrades to the newer Qualcomm QCC5181 Bluetooth chipset and adopts the Bluetooth 6.0 standard.

Compared to the UTWS5 (2025), the UTWS17 delivers substantially greater output power. FiiO’s new Bluetooth ear hooks provide 85 mW at 32 ohms, more than double the output of the UTWS5, which is rated at 35 mW.

The UTWS17 is compatible only with IEMs that use detachable cables with either 0.78 mm 2-pin or MMCX connectors.

Which connectors does the UTWS17 use?

The UTWS17 supports both 0.78 mm 2-pin and MMCX connectors, both of which are detachable and included in the package. This design provides greater flexibility, allowing the device to be used with IEMs that utilize either connector standard.

Wireless charging for TWS Bluetooth ear hooks

To prevent oxidation and dirt accumulation on the charging contacts between the Bluetooth ear hooks and the charging case, the UTWS17 employs a wireless charging system. As a result, there are no exposed metal charging contacts on the ear hooks themselves, except for the IEM connectors.

Touch-sensitive controls

The UTWS17 features touch-sensitive controls located at the end of each module, allowing users to adjust the volume and control music playback.

To reduce accidental inputs, FiiO has defined a dedicated circular touch area, making the controls easier to use during activities such as exercising.

IPX4 water resistance

Thanks to its IPX4 water-resistance rating, the UTWS17 can be used during workouts or in light rain.

Parametric EQ (PEQ) and FiiO Control app support

The UTWS17 supports Parametric EQ (PEQ) through the FiiO Control app.

In addition to applying custom EQ profiles, the app allows users to adjust channel balance and switch between Hi-Fi and Game modes.

Support for aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs

The UTWS17 supports a wide range of Bluetooth codecs, including high-resolution formats such as aptX Lossless, LDAC, and aptX Adaptive.

With aptX Lossless, the device can achieve transmission bitrates of up to 1,200 kbps (1.2 Mbps).

Battery life has decreased

Battery life on the UTWS17 is approximately one hour shorter than that of the UTWS5 (2025).

The UTWS17 provides up to 7 hours of continuous playback when using the SBC codec. When using LDAC, playback time decreases to approximately 5 hours.

The reduced battery life is likely attributable to the UTWS17’s significantly higher output power. In addition, the battery capacity (mAh) appears to be the same as, or very similar to, that of the UTWS5 (2025).

At the time of writing, availability of the FiiO UTWS5 varies by region. In the United States, the product can still be ordered but is currently out of stock. In the United Kingdom, it is unavailable for shipping. In Brazil, the official store displays a message indicating that the product is not available for purchase in the region.
