The Xduoo CDM-10 was officially launched last Friday (June 5) in both the international market and mainland China. Xduoo’s new CD player features both a tube amplification circuit and a transistor-based amplification circuit, offering two distinct sound signatures. In addition, it can be connected to an external DAC or used as a USB DAC/amp when paired with a PC or smartphone. Check out all the details about this new release below.

CDM-10 arrives to compete with the Cayin CP6

The Xduoo CDM-10 features a pair of NOS (New Old Stock) Raytheon 6418 JAN (Joint Army-Navy) vacuum tubes, just like the Cayin CP6. Both devices are priced at approximately US$400–500. In addition, both portable CD players feature physical buttons on the top panel for music control and switching between transistor and tube amplification modes. However, there are several differences between the two, as detailed below.

Display for playback information

The CDM-10 features a small display positioned next to the CD player’s lid. Its top-mounted placement is more convenient than a front-mounted screen when using headphones. Unfortunately, the Cayin CP6 has a small display on the front panel, making Xduoo’s design the more practical of the two.

The CDM-10’s display can show playback information, the selected filter, the active digital connection, and other operational data.

Automatic power-off function

The CDM-10 can be programmed to enter standby mode or power off automatically through its sleep timer function. This feature is particularly useful for users who enjoy listening to music before falling asleep.

Standard TOSLINK optical output

Most portable CD players provide a coaxial digital output alongside a mini-TOSLINK optical output using a 3.5mm connector. The Cayin CP6 follows this approach as well. However, the CDM-10 features a standard TOSLINK optical output (F05/F07). This provides greater flexibility when selecting cables and ensures a more secure connection to the CD player.

RCA line output (LO)

Instead of using a 3.5mm or 4.4mm connector for line output, as found on most portable CD players, the CDM-10 utilizes RCA outputs. This design choice provides greater flexibility when connecting active speakers and external amplifiers.

Two external power supply options

Users who wish to use the CDM-10 as a desktop CD player can simply switch the “BAT-EXT” toggle to bypass the internal battery. In addition, the device can be powered by a 12V DC power supply through either a USB-C cable or a barrel connector.

Volume control knob

The CDM-10’s volume control is a red knob located on the front panel of the device. Its placement and design are not as ergonomic as the volume knob found on the Cayin CP6. Another distinguishing feature of Cayin’s model is its cylindrical knob design, which allows for easier volume adjustment with minimal effort.

No Bluetooth support

Users who wish to connect Bluetooth headphones or stream music from a smartphone via Bluetooth will not be able to do so with the CDM-10. Unfortunately, Xduoo’s portable CD player does not include a Bluetooth chipset and therefore does not support wireless connectivity.

No CD ripping function

The CDM-10 does not support extracting audio files from CDs. Unfortunately, CD ripping functionality is not available on Xduoo’s portable CD player.
