The Moondrop MM3A was officially launched yesterday (July 22) in mainland China. Designed specifically for desktop use, the MM3A is an active multimedia speaker featuring a 0.65-inch silk-dome tweeter, a 3-inch aluminum-cone woofer, and two passive radiators. According to Moondrop, its new monitor speaker is suitable for professional monitoring, mixing, studying, and general audio production tasks. Below are all the details about this new release.
Update (September 3): The Moondrop MM3A is now available from Moondrop’s official store on AliExpress.
Featuring drivers developed entirely in-house by Moondrop, the MM3A combines a silk-dome tweeter, an aluminum-cone woofer, and dual passive radiators. To maximize the performance of these drivers, the speaker delivers 33W per channel, incorporates Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for sound optimization, and employs a 10-degree upward tilt designed specifically for desktop listening.
According to the manufacturer, the MM3A offers a flat frequency response across the audible spectrum while extending bass reproduction down to 50 Hz. Connectivity includes Bluetooth, USB, 3.5 mm AUX, as well as optical and coaxial digital inputs.
Below is a detailed overview of the Moondrop MM3A.

As mentioned above, the MM3A features a silk-dome tweeter, a woofer, and a pair of passive radiators. The woofer measures 3 inches and uses an aluminum diaphragm, while the tweeter features a 0.65-inch silk dome. The two passive radiators are mounted on the sides of the speaker enclosure.

To enhance the MM3A’s acoustic performance, Moondrop invested heavily in Digital Signal Processing (DSP). The speaker incorporates automatic upsampling, high-precision digital filters, a fully digital crossover, and a dynamic enhancement algorithm.
According to Moondrop, these algorithms enable precise crossover implementation with low power consumption. The company also states that they improve low-frequency performance, producing full-bodied, impactful bass even at low listening volumes.
According to the manufacturer, the MM3A provides a flat frequency response throughout its operating range while achieving bass extension down to 55 Hz. Below is the frequency response graph measured at Moondrop’s Research and Development laboratory.

To direct sound toward the listener’s ears, the MM3A’s drivers are angled upward by 10 degrees. This geometry was specifically developed for desktop applications.

To further improve the listening experience, Moondrop includes a set of foam isolation pads with the MM3A. These pads reduce vibration transmitted to the desk while slightly raising the speaker to optimize the listening angle.

Moondrop has also developed a dedicated metal desktop stand specifically for the MM3A. However, this accessory is sold separately.

To provide greater flexibility, Moondrop equipped the MM3A with five connection methods. Users can connect a smartphone via Bluetooth or through the USB-C port. In Bluetooth mode, pairing requires only a single button press.
If you want to connect the MM3A to your car audio system, the speaker also supports a 3.5 mm auxiliary input. In addition, it can be connected to a DAC, sound card, or audio interface through its optical or coaxial digital inputs.
It is also worth mentioning that the MM3A supports the LDAC Bluetooth audio codec, allowing higher-bitrate wireless transmission than codecs such as SBC, AAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive.

Like several other Moondrop audio products, including the recently released Pudding true wireless in-ear earphones, the MM3A is compatible with the Moondrop app, which includes a professional Parametric Equalizer (PEQ). Users can adjust filter type, center frequency, gain, and Q factor.
The app also provides the MM3A’s original frequency response curve as a reference when creating custom EQ profiles.

Through the Moondrop app, users can upload their custom EQ presets to Moondrop’s online community. Since many users share their Parametric EQ settings, others can download and audition these presets to explore different sound signatures.

The Moondrop MM3A is now available internationally in white for US$169.99 through Moondrop’s official store on AliExpress.
