The Moondrop Edge2 was officially launched today (June 29) in mainland China. The second-generation Edge features adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), USB audio transmission, and support for the Moondrop app’s 10-band Parametric Equalizer (PEQ). Check out all the details about Moondrop’s new Bluetooth over-ear headphones below.

Edge2 introduces a new diaphragm, PEQ support, and USB audio

The Edge2’s design remains virtually unchanged from the first generation. However, instead of using a beryllium-coated dome diaphragm, Moondrop has opted for a natural wood dome.

Another major addition is support for the Moondrop app’s Parametric Equalizer (PEQ), a feature that also debuted on the recently released Moondrop Pudding true wireless earbuds. In addition, users seeking higher sound quality and virtually zero latency can now use USB audio transmission through a wired USB connection.

Below are all the details about these new features and the other improvements implemented in the Moondrop Edge2.

Dynamic driver with a natural wood diaphragm

The first-generation Edge featured a dynamic driver with a beryllium-coated dome diaphragm. For the Edge2, Moondrop replaced the diaphragm material with natural wood. This is an interesting decision, previously seen in headphones from JVC (Japan Victor Company). Although the Chinese manufacturer did not explain the reason for the change, it was likely driven by the acoustic characteristics achieved with the new material.

10-band Parametric Equalizer (PEQ) support

The Moondrop Edge2 supports a 10-band Parametric Equalizer (PEQ) through the Moondrop app. This allows users to apply different target frequency response curves in an effort to achieve familiar sound signatures.

Another noteworthy feature is Sound Target ID (STI). Using data from the Online Interactive DSP platform [1], users can generate a personalized sound preference profile.

Thanks to Moondrop app support, the Edge2 can be fine-tuned using the built-in 10-band Parametric Equalizer. However, PEQ is not the only feature available in the manufacturer’s application.

[1] Online Interactive DSP is a platform developed by Moondrop that allows users to create equalization profiles and share or download EQ presets through a built-in social community within the app.

USB audio transmission

Thanks to USB audio transmission support, the Edge2 delivers virtually zero latency, making it suitable for competitive gaming. Additionally, when operating in USB audio mode, the headphones do not consume battery power, allowing for uninterrupted use without concerns about battery life.

Improved active noise cancellation (ANC)

The Edge2’s active noise cancellation (ANC) has improved by 24.4% compared to the previous generation. According to Moondrop, the headphones can reduce up to 95.5% of ambient noise below 1 kHz. This is an expected result, as low-frequency environmental noise is typically continuous and therefore more predictable for ANC algorithms.

Battery life sees a modest improvement

Battery life has increased by approximately two hours compared to the first-generation Edge. While the improvement is not substantial, the overall battery endurance remains competitive within the Bluetooth over-ear headphone market.

Angled and easily replaceable ear pads

Like its predecessor, the Edge2 features angled ear pads designed to better match the natural contours of the user’s head. This significantly improves the likelihood of achieving an effective seal, which is essential for accurate frequency reproduction.

The ear pads are removable and easy to replace, helping extend the headphones’ service life. However, Moondrop did not mention whether the battery is replaceable, another important factor to consider when purchasing Bluetooth headphones.
