The SP3000 series of Digital Audio Players (DAPs) will receive the Android operating system (OS). The announcement was made today (17) by Astell&Kern on its website, where it was revealed that the upcoming firmware for the SP3000, SP3000T, and SP3000M models will bring the full version of Google’s mobile operating system. This means that users will be able to download any app they wish from the Play Store. All details are provided below.
Astell&Kern announced today (17) that its SP3000 DAP series will receive an update featuring the full Android OS. Like the PD series and the SP4000, the SP3000, SP3000T, and SP3000M models will have access to the Play Store. The Digital Audio Player developer stated the following in its announcement:
“We’re working on bringing the improved UI/UX and Full Android OS — first introduced with the SP4000 and PD series — to the SP3000 series as well.”

The firmware update with the Android OS for the SP3000 series is scheduled for May 2026. However, Astell&Kern has not disclosed which version of the operating system will be implemented.
The first Astell&Kern DAP to adopt the Android OS with Play Store access was the SP4000. With the release of the PD20, which follows the same approach, Astell&Kern stated the following in the thread dedicated to the DAP on the Head-Fi forum:
“All AK players released going forward will have full Android.”

Both the SP4000 and the PD20 were launched with full Android. In September 2025, the PD10 received a firmware update that implemented Google’s mobile OS with Play Store access.
The Astell&Kern PD20 and PD10 DAPs run Android 12, while the SP4000 series runs Android 10. As for the SP3000 models, it is not yet known which version will be implemented by the company’s developers.
