The alleged 2026 version of the FiiO JM21 was, in fact, a misinterpretation by websites such as TechRadar and NotebookCheck. A FiiO representative has already confirmed that this was a mistake and that it actually refers to the “4G+64G” version released in November 2025, as previously reported by Hi-Fi Hub.
The so-called 2026 version of the FiiO JM21 is actually the “4G+64G” model launched in November of last year, which features increased RAM and a larger battery compared to the original JM21.
The misunderstanding by TechRadar and NotebookCheck occurred because the “4G+64G” version is only being released in Japan in January 2026. According to FiiO’s Japanese website, its launch in the Japanese market is scheduled for January 23.

The version of the FiiO JM21 with increased RAM and battery capacity was originally released on November 24, 2025, as reported by Hi-Fi Hub.
The FiiO JM21 versions differ only in battery capacity, RAM, and internal storage. See the detailed changes in the table below.
| Specifications / Models | FiiO JM21 3G+32G (original) | FiiO JM21 4G+64G (new version) |
| Internal storage | 32GB | 64GB |
| RAM | 3GB | 4GB |
| Battery capacity | 2400mAh | 3100mAh |
| Maximum battery life on the 3.5 mm single-ended (SE) output | 12,5h | 16h |
| Maximum battery life on the 4.4 mm balanced output | 9,5h | 12,5h |
It is important to keep in mind that this battery life does not take into account having Wi-Fi enabled. As shown in my review of the FiiO JM21 published here on Hi-Fi Hub, there is a reduction of approximately two hours when Wi-Fi is activated to use music streaming applications. In other words, if you use Spotify without downloading music for offline listening and connect your headphones to the 3.5 mm output, battery life will be at most 14 hours.
In the official statement, FiiO said the following:
“All other specifications remain unchanged — the light and smooth experience you already know continues.”
Yes. Even with the increase in battery capacity in the new JM21 version, the DAP remains compact, with the same dimensions.
Yes. According to FiiO’s CEO and founder, James Chung, the “3G+32G” version of the FiiO JM21 will continue to be sold alongside the “4G+64G” version.
“The JM21, the great success of FiiO’s new generation of players, has gained a new configuration. The price is slightly higher, but the experience has improved. The original 3+32 configuration will continue to be sold.”
The FiiO JM21 was very well received by the market, being praised in many aspects, especially for its light weight and compact body. However, in several reviews and in user comments on Head-Fi and Reddit, there were numerous criticisms regarding battery life. In addition, some users stated that they wanted a smoother experience, which was limited by the lack of RAM.
In the announcement of the new JM21 version, FiiO explained:
“We have listened carefully to feedback from users around the world and fully understand their expectations. Therefore, the JM21 (4G+64G) version is coming, offering more options for consumers who need them.”
The “4G+64G” version of the FiiO JM21 was released on November 24, 2025, and is currently priced at US$211.20 on FiiO’s official AliExpress store at the time of writing.
