The Wan’er 2 Red Lion (Bass Edition) was officially launched last Friday (30). The announcement was made by its developer, Tangzu, via the social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). In addition to featuring a different sound tuning with an emphasis on low frequencies, the “Red Lion” version of the Wan’er 2 includes additional accessories compared to the original in-ear monitor (IEM). Below are all the details of this new release.

What are the differences between the original Wan’er 2 and the “Red Lion” (Bass Edition)?

As the name suggests, the sound tuning of the Wan’er 2 Red Lion (Bass Edition) was designed with a focus on bass reproduction. The original Wan’er 2, by contrast, stands out for its midrange presentation. However, these are not the only differences between the two versions.

Continuing with the most visually distinctive features of the Wan’er 2 “Bass Edition,” the model adopts a translucent red design with a raised faceplate sculpted in the shape of a Chinese lion (also known as a guardian lion), a figure commonly seen at the entrances of temples in China, more specifically in the Forbidden City [1], as well as in other historical sites throughout the country.

[1] The Forbidden City was the imperial palace of China and is located in the center of the historic area of Beijing, China.

According to Tangzu, in order to “preserve the familiar coherence and musical balance of the original Wan’er” while “delivering greater bass authority,” the “Bass Edition” employs a pair of monocrystalline silver wires to internally connect the dynamic driver to the female 2-pin connector.

The sound tuning of the bass-focused version of the Wan’er 2 was intended to deliver deeper and more controlled bass without sacrificing coherent sound reproduction when compared to the original version. According to Tangzu, the “Bass Edition” delivers “strength without excess.”

Additional accessories

The Wan’er 2 Red Lion (Bass Edition) includes more accessories than the original version. The “Bass Edition” comes with a silicone carrying case, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and Tang Sancai and HE Sonic eartips.

Are there similarities between the Wan’er 2 versions?

Yes. Both versions share the same shell shape, with the exception of the faceplate, and consequently offer the same level of comfort. In addition, the cable used is the same in both versions (silver-plated OFC copper).

Cables with different terminations

It is worth noting that there are variants of the Wan’er 2 Red Lion (Bass Edition) featuring different cable terminations. The following variants are available:

Cable with 3.5 mm plug
Cable with 3.5 mm plug and integrated microphone
Cable with USB-C connector and integrated microphone

Release, pricing, and availability

The Tangzu Wan’er 2 Red Lion (Bass Edition) is now available through Tangzu’s official AliExpress store, starting at USD 24 (version with 3.5 mm plug and no microphone).
