The FiiO SnowSky Echo Mini firmware update version 3.1.0 was released yesterday (the 16th) and is causing issues, according to reports from users on Reddit. Below, we detail what has been happening after the installation of the new firmware and what changes were implemented by FiiO in its retro DAP (Digital Audio Player).

Echo Mini gains playback of all tracks in the genre category

After several messages and screenshots posted in the Echo Mini thread on the Head-Fi forum requesting “playback of all tracks within the genre category,” “FiiO Kang” announced that he was testing the feature and that it would be implemented in the next firmware update. That moment has now arrived with the release of firmware version 3.1.0.

The new 3.1.0 update comes just over six weeks after the release of firmware version 2.8.

Below are the changes introduced in firmware 3.1.0 for the FiiO SnowSky Echo Mini:

• Addition of the function to play all tracks within the genre category.
• Optimization of the sleep timer function.
• Various operating system optimizations.

Echo Mini users complain after updating to firmware 3.1.0

After updating to firmware version 3.1.0, Echo Mini users reported on the “snowsky” subreddit that album art is no longer being displayed on the DAP’s screen.

User “soul_buggie” created a post on Reddit stating the following:

“There’s a new update that recently came out today, so I went ahead and did it. Now I’ve noticed that all my album art is not displaying, and I wonder if it has anything to do with the update. Does anyone have similar experiences?”

Several users replied to “soul_buggie,” confirming that they were experiencing the same issue after installing firmware 3.1.0. One of them stated that the problem was only occurring with MP3 files:

“I also have the issue; I just updated it. It seems the album art only shows for MP3 files.”

User “sullolw” reported that album art display is working for AAC files using JPG images with a resolution of 600×600:

“Album art (600×600, non-progressive JPG) works for AAC on 3.1.0.”

According to user “Free_Employment8644,” files in the FLAC format are not being affected by the album art display issue:

“Found the pattern. I have some MP3 files on the Echo Mini, and there is no problem with these; the album art for FLAC files is not displayed.”

FiiO has not yet commented on the issue

As of the time of writing, “FiiO Kang,” who is responsible for communication with Echo Mini users, has not yet made any statement regarding the problem faced by DAP users.
